The colorful and witty illustrations of Israeli illustrator Hanoch Piven have appeared throughout the last 20 years on both sides of the Atlantic: in most major American magazines and newspapers such as Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone and in many European publications from The London Times to the Swiss Die WeltWoche.
Piven's work is in the permanent collection of the Prints and Photographs Division of The Library of Congress in Washington DC, where he presented his award-winning book:
“What Presidents Are Made of” in 2004.
Time Magazine chose “What Presidents Are Made of” as one of the 10 Best Children’s Books of 2004. Piven has published 6 other children’s books in the USA, his most recent being: "My Best Friend is as Sharp as a Pencil," published by Random House in March 2010.
Since 2003, Piven has been conducting workshops across the globe. These workshops apply the principles of Piven's collage technique, prompting children and adults to experiment with common everyday objects to create their own works of art. Apart from being an easy and fun way to create art, the workshops have been embraced by educators, art therapists and management consultants as an efficient tool for raising psychological issues to the surface through play and creativity.
Piven has also conducted workshops and lectured in many Art Schools around the world such as China Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing, Art Center of Design in Pasadena, Sheridan College in Toronto and Instituto Europeo di Design in Rome.
In Israel, Piven has gained great visibility due to his long time collaboration with the daily Haaretz and through his TV show on the pre-K channel HOP TV. His method has been implemented in many kindergartens in Israel as a means to teach children to create collages.
